So who is The Hungry Cyclist?

A life long food lover and keen recreational cyclist it took one fateful pedal powered tour of France to convince Tom Kevill -Davies to give up a career in advertising and jump on his bicycle in search of gastronomic adventure.

Starting his tour in New York in May 2005 The Hungry Cyclist has been on the road for over ten months and put close to 10 thousand miles on the clock while eating his way around the Americas.

His restless search for the perfect meal has spanned the United States twice, detoured into the wilds of Canada and he is now eating his way through the culinary highs and lows of Mexico.

With his sights set on Rio De Janeiro Tom will be pedaling and eating for at least another year in search of what he believes is the culinary Holy Grail. Sweating over mountains, eating snapping turtle stew, crossing desserts, chewing on bulls testicles or working with a Mexican fishing crew, The Hungry Cyclist will stop at nothing in the name of culinary research.

"Short of moving in, I believe cycle touring to be the only way to get truly close to a regions cuisine. Moving slowly from place to place food is your gasoline and your next meal is never too far from your mind.

This journey has given me a chance to get close to the real food of the Americas and to understand foods vital role in the cultural tapestry.

I can’t wait to get my teeth into whatever culinary adventures lie ahead in Central and South America."

With extensive photography, local recipes and reports from the road you can follow Tom through every meal and every mile as he continues his pedal powered journey into the wonderful world of food.

Tom Kevil Davies has been the food collumist for The Season Magazine for two years and has made regular appearances on BBC Radio 4s acclaimed travel show Excess Baggage.
